    Install AlmaLinux

This page is the quick path for installing AlmaLinux: where to get the media, how to verify it, and what to check in the installer. For the full step-by-step guide see the installation guide on the hub site.

The official mirror tree publishes installation media per major version. In repo.almalinux.org/almalinux/10/isos/x86_64/ you will find three ISO types: boot (network install), minimal (minimal install) and dvd (full offline). The directory lists AlmaLinux-10-latest-x86_64-* names alongside the files for each minor version, such as AlmaLinux-10.2-x86_64-*. The CHECKSUM file in the same directory is used for verification.

    Terminal window
    curl -LO https://repo.almalinux.org/almalinux/10/isos/x86_64/AlmaLinux-10-latest-x86_64-minimal.iso
    curl -LO https://repo.almalinux.org/almalinux/10/isos/x86_64/CHECKSUM

The full download and verification notes are in Download AlmaLinux. Check the system requirements first.

    2. Verify and prepare the installation media

Section titled “2. Verify and prepare the installation media”

Boot, minimal and dvd images must each be compared against the CHECKSUM file in their own download directory. First make sure the image form you hold matches your installation plan. If verification cannot find an image with the same name, go back to the media list and pair them again; do not infer integrity from the result for a different image.

    Terminal window
    sha256sum -c CHECKSUM --ignore-missing

The ISO you chose must actually take part in the calculation and pass. After that, a virtual machine can mount the ISO. For physical boot media, check the target device separately: a successful file check does not prove you wrote to the right disk.

After booting, choose Install AlmaLinux 10. These places deserve a pause:

    • Software selection: pick “Minimal Install” for servers; choose a group with a GUI only if you need a graphical environment, so you do not have to remove it later.
    • Installation destination: automatic partitioning is the simple choice; partition manually when you have a separate data disk or need a custom /var.
    • Network and host name: enable the network card in the installer and confirm it gets an address; for servers, configure a static address right away.
    • Root password and administrator: set a root password and create the first administrator user in the wheel group, then log in as that administrator after installation.

On first login, update to the current minor version and reboot:

    Terminal window
    sudo dnf update -y
    sudo reboot

After the reboot, run a baseline inspection from the minimal checklist in Ops and monitoring (services, logs, time sync) before you put workloads on it.
